The combination of image and sound through animation films, film scoring, short films and visual art creates a powerful depiction of our time. A succession of images which use music in a different way every single time, making one final canvas of a constant progressing field where randomness is a constant factor.

The succession of images by the Swiss-Canadian artist Patrick Immer-Landeric,
uses Ilias Nikolaidis music, to travel us throught Prometheus eternal torment.

“Viking Eggeling Symponie Diagonale”

Ο σουηδός ζωγράφος και κινηματογραφιστής Βίκινγκ Έγκελινγκ {1880-1925}
έζησε και εργάστηκε στο Παρίσι. Φίλοι του από τον καλλιτεχνικό κύκλο της εποχής
ήταν ο Μοντιλιάνι, ο Αρπ, και ο Κήσλινγκ. Το 1920 άρχισε η κινηματογραφική
συνεργασία του με τον γερμανό ντανταϊστη, κινηματογραφιστή και συγγραφέα Χανς
Ρίχτερ, και τους τεχνικούς ειδικών εφέ από το γερμανικό στούντιο UFA. Ένα χρόνο
μετά εγκαταστάθηκε στο Βερολίνο. Στο φιλικό του περιβάλλον συγκαταλεγόταν
καλλιτέχνες από τη σχολή του Μπαουχάους, την ντανταϊστική ομάδα November και
το περιοδικό De Stijl.

GREEK FLUTE CONCERT – RIA GEORGIADIS & SVEN BIRCH

Danish pianist SVEN BIRCH received his musical education in Aarhus, where he obtained the soloist diploma. Several scholarships enabled him to study in Vienna with Prof Alexander Jenner. Masterclasses with distinguished pianists Tatjana Nicolajewa, Conrad Hansen, John Lill, Leonid Brumberg, Peter Feuchtwanger. Birch is a much asked for musician with a broad repertoire. He is a soloist, chamber music player, accompanist and conductor. Birch is a member of the `George Crumb Trio´ Linz, and the `Ensemble Nord´ Copenhagen. He is a piano professor at the Anton Bruckner University and is head of the keyboard Institute. He has also taught in the Royal Conservatory Copenhagen, and the Mozarteum Salzburg. He is frequently invited to give Masterclasses and has made several CD-, TV-and Radio recordings (BBC, NDR, WDR, DR, NRK, SR, ORF, Magyar Televízió, Radio Island, RKB (Japan), and TV Globo (Brazil). Moreover he is a composer and editor of a series of pedagogical piano music at `Universal Edition Wien´ and `Zimmermann Frankfurt´. He studied conducting with GMD Janos Fürst and has been his assistant at the Aalborg Symfonieorkester (DK).

Greek-Austrian flutist RIA GEORGIADIS is a versatile musician with a broad repertoire, showing particular interest in promoting new compositions. Critics praise her “full, evocatively lucid and flexible sound” and “exemplary technique”. She has a busy concert schedule. Apart from a number of scholarships and prizes, her artistic background also features various recordings for the Greek and Austrian Radio. Born in Thessaloniki, Ria Georgiadis received her musical education in her home town (New Conservatory Thess,), in Linz, Austria – Anton Bruckner University, and Germany, at the University of Music Freiburg, (class Robert Aitken). Furthermore she attended postgraduate studies in “Breathing and Voice Education for Windplayers” with Dr Bernhard Riebl at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Additional studies with Karlheinz Stockhausen – Kathinka Pasveer and Janos Balint (Budapest) have been of formative influence. Master Classes with distinguished flutists  have been a constant source of inspiration. A central pillar of her artistic output is the creative cooperation with young composers. A great number of compositions have been dedicated to and premiered by her. A special field of her interest is the application and crosslinking of knowledge and findings gained in various fields of science in order to permeate and promote musical and music-related educational contents. She is a relaxation pedagogue focusing on relaxation and differentiated tension techniques for musicians. Currently she is working on a research project examining the effects of Mental Training on Muscle Tone Economy in flute playing. Ria Georgiadis is teaching flute at the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, Greece.

4o Φεστιβάλ Βωβού Κινηματογράφου

Τo 4o Φεστιβάλ Βωβού Κινηματογράφου του Ιδρύματος Μιχάλης Κακογιάννης με θέμα “Μεγάλοι Σκηνοθέτες του Βωβού” διοργανώνεται από Δευτέρα 16 έως Πέμπτη 26 Σεπτεμβρίου 2013, με ελεύθερη είσοδο για το κοινό.

Σε συνέχεια των πολύ επιτυχημένων αφιερωμάτων στον αμερικάνικο και τον ευρωπαϊκό βωβό κινηματογράφο (τις ταινίες των οποίων είχε επιλέξει ο ίδιος ο Μ. Κακογιάννης), όπως και τη χειραφέτηση της γυναίκας, το 4ο Φεστιβάλ Βωβού Κινηματογράφου επανέρχεται στο ΙΜΚ με
16 ταινίες διάσημων σκηνοθετών, όπως οι Φρίντριχ Μουρνάου, Φριτς Λανγκ, Καρλ Ντράιερ, Σεργκέι Αϊζενστάιν, Στρόχαϊμ, Μπουνιουέλ και Νταλί, Σεσίλ ντε Μιλ, Τσάρλι Τσάπλιν Μπάστερ Κήτον, γυρισμένες από το 1902 έως και το 1929.

Την πλειοψηφία των προβολών ντύνουν μουσικά πρωτότυπες συνθέσεις Ελλήνων συνθετών που ερμηνεύονται “ζωντανά” από νέους Έλληνες ερμηνευτές.

Όπως κάθε χρόνο, το 4ο Φεστιβάλ Βωβού Κινηματογράφου διοργανώνεται σε συνεργασία με το STUDIO-Παράλληλο Κύκλωμα, και τον Πρόεδρό του Χρήστο Παπαδημητρίου καθώς και το εργαστήριο Film Scoring με υπεύθυνο καθηγητή τον Αλέξανδρο Μούζα.

«ΜΕΤΑΤΡΟΠΙΕΣ»

Πέντε σπουδαίες ταινίες του βωβού κινηματογράφου, μεταξύ των οποίων και η μοναδική ταινία του Μπέκετ, με συνοδεία ζωντανής μουσικής.

Musical wandering

The Alea III contemporary music ensemble gets the first part of its name from the Greek word alea, which means “to wander.” In Latin, it refers to “a die or dice used for playing at games of chance.” The III refers to this third group organized by music director Theodore Antoniou. The ensemble is in residence at Boston University, and tonight’s ALEA III Young Composers’ Workshop highlights new works written for Alea III by young, international composers. The program includes “Kaleidoscope” by Mary Montgomery Koppel from the United States and “River” by Ilias Nikolaidis from Greece. 8 p.m. Free.
